Istanbul-born Shahan Shahnoor (1903-1974), one of the first Armenian modernist writers (“Retreat Without Song”) became a far more successful writer when he changed his name to Armen Lubin in 1945 and began to write in French. He won French literary award and wrote, among others, “The Furtive Passer-by”, "The High Cage”, “Fire With Fire” and “Sacred Patience”. He finally received recognition in Armenia when his works were published there in 1962, 1967, and 1971.
