Anastas Mikoyan in Cuba

When he was in Havana during the Cuban Missile Crisis Anastas Mikoyan visited Hemingway. He told the American writer that there was a sum of money in the Russian State Bank, from his Russian copyrights, equivalent to 150,000 rubles. He added that the Soviet government was studying how to convert the rubles into dollars and pay them in America, although this was against the law. “I hope that very soon you’ll be able to receive ten thousand dollars a year,” Mikoyan added. Hemingway replied: “I’ll be happy to accept when you grant the same treatment to all American writers.”
