In William Safire’s “Sleeper Spy” thriller (1995), an Armenian woman hijacks Air Force One, with the US president on board, and demands that the plane fly to Armenia. Through a flyer she also demands that the US intercede in the conflict in Nagorno-Karapagh on the side of the Armenians, saying that they were being killed by the hundreds every day. Russian authorities communicate with Nagorno-Karapagh government and talk the hijacker to change her plan. The hijacker is then shot in the head by the co-pilot.
