Armenian Mamluks

Thousand of young Armenian, captured during the invasions of the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia (1266-1375) were taken to Egypt as Mamluk or slave-soldiers. They were also educated in agriculture. The youngest were educated in army camps according to the Mamluk system, and later employed in the army and the palace.
