Bzommar seat of Armenian catholic-patriarch

While some Armenians converted to the Roman Catholic Church during the Crusader era, the Armenian Catholic Church was not formally recognized as part of the Roman Catholic Church until 1742, Pope Benedict XIV was the pontiff then. A monastery was founded at Bzommar in Lebanon in 1771 to house the catholic-patriarch as head of the Armenian Catholics. The see was moved to Constantinople in 1830 but returned to Lebanon during the Armenian Genocide in 1915.
