Canada’s Move – Join Us in Ottawa

28 April 2018

People of Armenia poured into the streets of Armenia for the past two weeks; they peacefully demonstrated and demanded removal from power of RPA (Republican Party of Armenia – HHK – ՀՀԿ – Հայաստանի Հանրապետական Կուսակցություն). Serzh Sargsyan resigned from his newly self-appointed office under the widespread pressure of the people led by the opposition leader Nikol Pashinyan.

Gathering in Solidarity at Queen’s Park, Toronto, Canada

The acting Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan desperately tries to consolidate power in his hands to prolong an illegitimate oligarchic governance of RPA for another 4 years until 2022 to no avail. People of Armenia and Diaspora Armenians in all major cities worldwide show their support to this unprecedented movement to subvert the ill-conceived attempts to prolong RPA lifeline and also to fulfill the will of the people to elect Nikol Pashinyan as the next Prime Minister.

We, concerned Canadian Armenians will gather in front of the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Canada to express our unequivocal support to the people of Armenia in its struggle to establish democracy and a fair socio-economic-political system.

Date & Time: Sunday, April 29, 2018 at 12:00 pm.

Address: 7 Delaware Ave, Ottawa, ON K2P 0Z2

Please join us and support our compatriots for a democratic Armenia.

  1. Yes, not simple – To Armen & Armo

    Dear virtual friends-compatriots,

I have no doubt that both of you have the well-being of people in Armenia at heart and also both of you wish a fairer socio-economic-political system in Armenia. For lack of a better expression we call it democracy. I say so, because each country, each ethnic cohort perceives  and experiences differently this or that conjectured system.

Armenia's people, for good or bad, overwhelmingly have spoken in favour of Pashinyan and at present he is the only recognized choice to be the next Prime Minister of Armenia and get to organize hopefully a fair election. Present parliament is not representative of people's wish.

To Armen who for whatever reason presents a ridiculously inaccurate number of protesters I'd like to present the following quotations from Inside Armenia’s Improbable “Velvet Revolution”

"Close to 200,000 people took to the major avenues of Yerevan, including thousands who had traveled from other parts of Armenia."

"On Monday morning, most workplaces, schools, and universities were closed, and student-led demonstrators filled virtually every street in Yerevan. Just before noon, news began to circulate that hundreds of uniformed soldiers had joined a major march, and shortly thereafter Pashinyan and the other MPs were released. By then, close to 500,000 demonstrators had packed Republic Square and the surrounding streets. Shortly after 4 p.m., Sargsyan abruptly resigned, admitting: “Pashinyan was right. I was wrong.”

Since above date (April 23, 2018) Gyumri and Vanadzor — the second and third most populous cities in Armenia — have en masse joined the peaceful worldwide unprecedented movement counting from the days of Mahatma Gandhi in India.
