In the past two decades the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) has had its share of turbulence which has made its members and Armenians, in general, wonder where the organization Nubar Pasha founded more than a century ago is headed. Below is Civilnet's Salpi Ghazarian's interview on September 17, 2013, with Berge Setrakian, the head of the AGBU.

Demystifying the Armenian Diaspora
It is hard to understand the attitude of Mr. Setrakian, when the largest donation to the AGBU, the Melkonian Fund (over $4.5 million in 1923) has so badly been mismanaged by the organization. Where the recorded actual intent of the donor was to build a school that should stay open for generations, even if the AGBU were not in existence (this was written and mentioned in the donor's will). But by legal maneuverings, lawyer Setrakian managed to close the school after the AGBU purposely mismanaged it for years so as to justify this act. How can the AGBU still expect to get donations when they do not abide by the intent of the donors' wishes? I guess when a so-called leader can not communicate in his mother tongue but preaches "Azkabahbanoom", one has to justify his shortcomings and find an excuse for them.
