First woman physician in Ottoman Turkey

The first woman physician in Ottoman Turkey was Dr. Zaruhi Kavalcayan. She received her education at the University of Boston. She was the daughter of Dr. Serop Kavalcayan of Izmir and Adapazar. The Turkish-government maintains that Safiye Ali Krekeler was the first woman physician although she was born in 1894 and was nine-years-old when Zaruhi became a doctor in 1903.
