Keghart posted press releases of Haigazian University (former Haigazian College) on several occasions. We are asked by readers how come Haigazian’s announcements are singled out as opposed to so many other institutions in the Diaspora where there are departments of Armenology.
Haigazian University is more than an institute of higher learning. It is a bastion at the forefront to promote and preserve Armenian heritage with a comprehensive plan (courses, seminars, conferences, sponsorship of cultural activities in a variety of fields). Many of its graduates became teachers, instructors, writers and leaders in various areas serving the community.
It is worth noting that at Haigazian University Lebanese-Armenian students need to complete at least two obligatory courses in Armenian related to language, history and other aspects of Armenian life. Students of Armenian ethnicity who do not speak or write in Armenian are also required to take courses reflective of Armenian heritage in English or Arabic.
“As a Lebanese institution, University’s mission is informed by a variety of enriching traditions. With its roots in the Armenian Evangelical heritage, which promotes a harmony of faith and learning, and its Armenian Diaspora experience, which testifies to resilience and progress, the University strives to disseminate and promote knowledge about Armenian civilization and heritage.”
What Melkonian Educational Institute in Cyprus stood for — but abruptly put on hold — continues by Haigazian University in Beirut at a different level.
Haigazian deserves all the support that it can get irrespective of religious and political affiliations.

Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Haigazian University and the Education Development Center (EDC) – Higher Education Capacity Development (HECD)
Haigazian University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Education Development Center (EDC), implementer of USAID’s Higher Education Capacity Development (HECD) program, aiming at improving the institutional capacity of the University to deliver Job Readiness programs, in addition to providing expanded job readiness programs and tools.
Activated by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the $10M program activities, signed with five Lebanese Higher Education Institutions including Haigazian University, will work towards strengthening the human and institutional capacity of the selected institutions of higher learning, by improving their organizational effectiveness, management and administration, research capacity and methods, facilities, degree programs, curricula and pedagogy.
The MOU was signed by University President, Rev. Dr. Paul Haidostian, and Chief of Party of USAID-HECD, Mr. Bill Potter, in the presence of representatives from both sides. The MOU clarified the roles and responsibilities of HECD and Haigazian University, ensuring the best working methods to implement HECD program activities and its associated monitoring, evaluation and learning protocols.
