My Unfamiliar Fatherland

One plausible explanation as to why the repatriation was organized is that it was to lay the groundwork for Soviet land (Kars, Ardahan) claims against Turkey. But Joseph Stalin's plan was thwarted by President Harry Truman when the latter was advised by Winston Churchill to resist Soviet "expansionism."–Editor.

This "interesting" video-documentary (Part I) in Armenian, subtitled in English,  presents "the great repatriation to Soviet Armenia during the 1946-49 period. The love for the fatherland was the impetus that drove the immigrants to return. The disappointments they suffered were monumental as they entered a world where poverty and suffering, following WWII, were paramount. Then there was the issue of the competing political parties which compounded the problems they faced. Exile to Siberia was common."

"Today a new wave of immigrants, from the war-torn areas of the Middle East, are being resettled in Armenia. Again the country is faced with difficulties in ministering to the needs of the newcomers."

"At the same time, an exodus from Armenia, because of ongoing economic and political problems, is taking place. Thousands have been leaving, and unless there are changes and some resolution to those issues, the future of our independent Armenia will remain in jeopardy."

  1. How can we see Part 2 of this great documentary

Thank you for posting the link to this very informative, great documentary. I did learn considerably from it.

At the end, I noticed that it said  "part 1". Is there a "part 2"? If anyone knows of how one can see part 2 (or even further parts), I would be very interested and grateful.

I will be in Canada soon with better access to cyberspace and will enjoy watching this again.
