Napoleon and Armenians

After Napoleon’s bloody Battle of Mount Tabor (1799) against the Memluks in Palestine, an Armenian deputation met the French leader in his ornate tent in nearby Jaffa. To get the support of the Armenians, Napoleon offered to establish a free Armenia after the collapse of the oppressive Ottoman Empire. But a bubonic plague forced Napoleon to withdraw from Palestine to Egypt. Shortly after, he left for France, harassed by the British Navy.
