Petition to Government of Canada Against Azerbaijan’s Aggression

The Honourable Anthony Rota, Speaker of the House of Commons of Canada,
The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs,
The Honourable Harjit S. Sajjan, Minister of International Development.

Whereas:

– On Tuesday, September 13th, Azerbaijani forces began a full-scale military aggression against the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia;

– Azerbaijan launched air- and missile-attacks at four areas along the border of Armenia;

– Armenian border towns, villages and settlements are being bombarded and shelled;

– The people of Armenia and the democratically elected government have been defending their families, homes, and lands;

– The recent violent attacks on civilians of towns across the Armenian border are genocidal threats towards the Armenian nation;

We, the undersigned, Canadians and Armenian-Canadians, call upon the Government of Canada to:

1. Condemn the aggression of Azerbaijan against the sovereign Republic of Armenia;
2. Stop all arms sales to Azerbaijan to ensure Canada takes no part in violence;
3. Intervene in this recent escalation of hostilities, raise the matter at highest level of international forums including the UNO;
4. Compel Azerbaijan not to resort to violence to resolve international issues;
5. Impose sanctions for ongoing ethnic and cultural cleansing.
