In “Ravished Armenia” (1919), Aurora Mardigian (1901-1994) played her own story of Genocide survival. A 15-minute fragment was discovered a few years after her death and was aired on PBS in 2000. When the movie premiered (1919) at the Plaza Hotel of Manhattan, 14 Armenian young girls wrapped in Armenian and American flags served as ushers and worked as fund raisers. Women and girls were banned by the government from watching the movie because of fears that they would faint and fall.
