St. James the Greater and St. James the Less

The Sts. James Armenian Cathedral of Jerusalem honors two saints—St. James the Greater and St. James the Less—who are buried in the famous edifice built in the 12th century. The first St. James was the brother of Christ; the second was the bishop of Jerusalem. Under the Memluk Sultanate, in the 1340s, the Armenian community was allowed to build a wall around the Armenian Quarter.
