Lessons Learned from Switzerland”
In a span of one week, I learned that both The California Courier and the USA Armenian Life Magazine are now experiencing financial difficulties and that the future of these two publications is in serious jeopardy.
As a longtime subscriber I have enjoyed receiving both of these newspapers for many years. They have become the official “organs”, the voices of the Armenian Diaspora, especially when these publishers write very timely and vital columns regarding Armenian issues of major concern to us in the Diaspora as well as those in Armenia and Artsakh.

Lessons Learned from Switzerland”
As a longtime subscriber I have enjoyed receiving both of these newspapers for many years. They have become the official “organs”, the voices of the Armenian Diaspora, especially when these publishers write very timely and vital columns regarding Armenian issues of major concern to us in the Diaspora as well as those in Armenia and Artsakh.
I would like to take this opportunity to state that it would be an irreversible loss to see these wonderful newspapers cease publication due to financial problems. We would all be deprived of the patriotic voices of consummate journalists and passionate activists we all have come to love and respect, namely Mr. Harut Sassounian and Mr. Appo Jabarian.
As you well know, The California Courier and the USA Armenian Life Magazine have a long history. Over the years they have become part of the social and cultural fabric of the Diaspora. While we are losing compatriots to assimilation by the hour, we should all do our best to save these vital voices of the Diaspora, which bring us together to read newsworthy topics of interest to us all.
As a subscriber and a supporter of these two newspapers, I have made a small donation to each toward defraying the cost of publishing. I would earnestly encourage you, as my fellow readers, to do likewise. I do realize that the Great Recession is still with us, but any amount you give would be of great support. You can help one or the other or both as you would like, but let us show our solidarity with these venerable publishers.
You can also support the newspapers by making a gift subscription ($59 a year for The California Courier and $50 a year for the USA Armenian Life Magazine) to your friends and relatives — a gift that would last year-round — or by placing your business card as a small ad in The California Courier for $25 a week.
As a writer of books and articles on current Armenian subjects, I have benefited immensely from the news and commentaries of both the USA Armenian Life Magazine and The California Courier. We just cannot remain spectators on the wayside to witness the ardent sociopolitical activism and enlightenment fade away.
So, please do whatever you can to support these icons of the Diaspora. The holidays are upon us. Let us come together to save these valued publications and feel happy and proud that we have all contributed toward The California Courier’s and the USA Armenian Life Magazine’s recovery from their financial woes.
Kindly send your donation(s) to The California Courier, c/o Harut Sassounian, P.O. Box 5390, Glendale, CA 91221.
And/or to the USA Armenian Life Magazine, c/o Appo Jabarian, P.O. Box 1339, Glendale, CA 91209-1339
Thank you very much for your kind consideration!
