Talented Minority

Historian P. Charanis wrote in 1959: “The important role played in the history of Byzantium by the talented minority–the Armenians–has been generally unrecognized.” Bishops, architects, important military figures, and one out of five emperors were Armenian. The famous Emperor Heraclius had an Armenian father and a Cappadocian mother.
