Catherine Rstakian, born in Paris in 1930, was the wife of the late writer/filmmaker Alain Robbe-Grillet, founder of the “nouveau roman” and a member of the Academie francaise. Rstakian, under the pseudonym Jean de Berg wrote a number of sadomasochistic books. One of the books was filmed as “The Image”. She appeared in other movies including “’Immortelle”. In addition to writing and acting in the cinema and theatre, she is also a photographer. Rstakian met Robbe-Grillet on a train in the mid-’50s. They were married in 1957. He died in 2008.
