During the reign of Assyrian powerful King Sargon II (8th century B.C.), the northern Urartian regions of Armenia were governed by Sarduri and later by his son Rusa (Hrachia) located near the present city of Van (Blaina) on the eastern shore of Lake Van. Rusa consolidated the various Urartian petty kingdoms centered on lakes Sevan, Van, and Urmia. When he placed Urzana on the throne in Musasir, the fury of the Assyrian monarch knew no bounds.
