The Six-Pointed Star

Among the many symbols ancient Armenians used was the six-pointed star for architectural purposes. They believed the star held magical powers and thus incorporated it in their buildings, particularly places of worship. Thus one can find many Armenian churches that are constructed in the shape of a six-pointed star to support the dome or simply as a sacred decoration protecting the church. The exterior walls of St. Echmiadzin (built in 303) have many hexagram decorations.
