Turkish Intellectuals Who Have Recognized the Genocide

Raffi Balian MD, ADLP (RAG) US Western District Committee, 2015

We feel confident that 2015 will provide humanity with an excellent opportunity, not only to commemorate, but also to internationally highlight the 100th anniversary of the first genocide of the 20th century committed by the Ottoman Empire against the first Christian nation – the Armenians.

This year will be the year of numerous panel discussions, conferences, ceremonies, and gatherings to reveal historical facts related to the Armenian Genocide which has been consistently denied, distorted, and covered up by successive post-Ottoman Turkish governments.

This publication, [Turkish Intellectuals Who Have Recognized the Reality of the Armenian Genocide compiled by Hambersom Aghbashian] is one of many that aim to express the inner voices of justice. It expresses wisdom, which will help people reckon with reality and assist in spreading the truth. It is one of the many tools needed to break down an enormous wall of state-sponsored denial. Such publications will help build the momentum necessary to defeat the taboos of the Turkish government for the past hundred years.

We emphasize that Armenian organizations across the world should avoid encouraging Turkish politicians and intellectuals’ use of Armenian community forums to relay words of apology, with the aim of urging both sides to leave the past behind. This simply hinders demands for justice – the main objective and raison d’âitre of Armenian political organizations in the Diaspora.

Time is not a factor in making us forget our “just cause,” or to soften and undermine the magnitude of the greatest crime committed by the Ottoman Young Turk regime against humanity.

Dear Mr. Hambersom Aghbashian,

There are practical, as well as humanitarian reasons, as to why you have chosen to present your series of "Turkish Intellectuals Who Have Recognized The Reality of The Armenian Genocide" in book form. Your praiseworthy compilation is a testament by several Turkish intellectuals regarding the recognition of the widespread massacres of Armenians in Ottoman Turkey as genocide.

Armenian history bears witness to centuries of persecutions and massacres. The Ottoman Empire and successive post-Ottoman Turkish governments, however, caused irreparable damage to the Armenian nation, killing 1.5 million of the Armenian population during and after World War I. Surviving Armenians were forced into exile in a number of foreign countries, and consequently lost their four millennia-old homeland.

We hope this publication will help awaken the masses in Turkey.

Nor Or Publishing Inc. wishes you goodwill and continued success in your efforts at fostering Turkish recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
