Vote for Amara Possian

Ward 13 is my home. I was raised in Don Mills by my mother, my grandparents, and by a caring community of Armenians living in the diaspora.

From my family and from my community, I learned the importance of bringing people together, taking care of them, and giving them the tools they need to build a life.

For 10 years, I have made that happen. I listen to and engage with diverse groups of people. We find commonalities and shared values, and work together to achieve common goals.

That's what we need in Ward 13. And that's what I bring to this role.

I’ve been an advocate my whole life.

I believe in the potential and power of young people. I taught kids at wilderness survival camps. I led youth delegations at the United Nations climate talks. As a student at McGill University, I was active in the youth climate movement. I trained and coached thousands of young people to take action in their communities. Students should be centered in the decisions that affect their lives.

I’ve led meaningful community engagement. While employed at McGill, I brought students, staff, and faculty together to develop the sustainability strategy. At Leadnow, I engaged over 400,000 people in setting the vision, direction, and campaign priorities of a national advocacy organization. I’m passionate about bringing out the best thinking in a community.

I’m a strong advocate and an experienced community organizer. I’ve run housing and climate campaigns. I’ve met with Ministers to fight for our community. In the last federal election, I mobilized tens of thousands of people to vote for change. I know the power of bringing people together to work for something bigger.

I build and support social change organizations. Together, we have worked on reconciliation with Indigenous communities, housing affordability, and climate change. I now run a successful consulting business, where I support organizational change processes. I empower nonprofits by strengthening work culture, training staff, and facilitating strategic conversations.

During the provincial election, I took the leap into politics. I fell in love with our community while knocking on hundreds of doors. The conversations I had with our neighbours will always stay with me. I was struck by how much we have in common and how hungry people are for a representative who listens and has their back.

When the provincial government rolled back curriculum and cut school budgets, I knew we had to do something.

I believe in our community. Our children deserve better. Our schools need great people fighting for excellent education. Let me show you what an accessible and engaging school trustee looks like.
