George the Armenian was one of the most influential poets of medieval Ethiopia who wrote in Gaez, language of the Monophysites of Ethiopia. He wrote the hymn “Aragoneh-Mariam” dedicated to the Virgin Mary. George’s name is associated with the blooming of Ethiopian literature. He lived during the reign of Zareh-Jacob (1434-1468).
