Napoleon’s Promises

During his stay in Moscow Napoleon met representatives of the famous Lazarev (Lazarian) clan and promised to make them the rulers of Armenia. The French emperor gave high marks to the Armenian clan for its military prowess and called on the Lazarevs to follow him to create “great history” together. But the Lazarevs, who wanted peaceful and neighborly relations between Russia and France, refused to break their oath and remained loyal Russian citizens.
