Haigazian U. Receives Financial Shot in the Arm

The establishment of THE ARMEN & SALPI HAROUTUNIAN SCHOLARSHIP FUND was joyfully announced at Haigazian University on December 2, 2013. Mr. and Mrs. Haroutunian donated US$250,000 to be used for scholarship assistance for Armenian students on the graduate and the undergraduate levels. The university celebrated the establishment of this fund as it approaches the celebration of its 60^th anniversary.

The event started with President Paul Haidostian expressing his gratitude on behalf of Haigazian University for receiving this generous donation. He noted that it shows the trust the Haroutunians have in Haigazian University’s mission. The president highlighted that the substantial gift will be used for Armenian students who maintain good academic standards and are in need of financial assistance. He underlined the fact that the university’s greatest needs are and will continue to be in the area of raising funds in order to enable students attain a higher education, especially those with limited financial resources. In addition, President Haidostian spoke about the long years of service that the sponsor, Mr. Haroutounian, has already given to the Armenian community and in particular to Haigazian University in the form of financial assistance which has benefited numerous students.

A short power point was presented to give a glimpse of the prolific life of Mr. Haroutounian and the different contributions he has made through publications and various cultural and charitable initiatives.

Lastly, the sponsor Mr. Armen Haroutunian expressed his sense of satisfaction and fulfillment and hoped that in the coming such events would be contagious and be repeated often. He explained that, alongside non-Armenians, Haigazian University brings together Armenian youth of all backgrounds and offers them a variety of academic programs of study in an atmosphere that also nurtures the Armenian spirit. He noted that Haigazian University helps elevate the educational and social standards of our nation and encouraged others to also share their financial resources supporting the growth and prosperity of a unique institution of the Armenian diaspora.

A reception and time of fellowship with Mr. and Mrs. Haroutunian concluded the event.

This donation was a special tribute and recognition for all of Haigazian University’s faculty and staff, past and present, and for its ongoing educational work.

ԱՐՄԷՆ ԵՒ ՍԱԼԲԻ ՅԱՐՈՒԹԻՒՆԵԱՆ ԿՐԹԱՆՊԱՍՏԻ ՖՈՆՏ

ՀԱՅԿԱԶԵԱՆ ՀԱՄԱԼՍԱՐԱՆԻՆ ՄԷՋ

Գոհունակութեան խորունկ զգացումով ու հաճոյքով, Հայկազեան Համալսարանին մէջ յայտարարուեցաւ հաստատումը Արմէն եւ Սալբի Յարութիւնեան Մնայուն Կրթանպաստին:

Արդարեւ, Տէր եւ Տիկ. Արմէն եւ Սալբի Յարութիւնեաններ 250,000 ամերիկեան տոլարի հայ ուսանողներու կրթանպաստի անձեռնմխելի ֆոնտ մը հաստատեցին Հայկազեան Համալսարանին մէջ:

Լիբանահայ ծոցին մէջ իր վաթսունամեակի սէմին գտնուող Հայկազեան Համալսարանին համար իւրօրինակ այս նուիրատուութեան պաշտօնական արարողութիւնը կատարուեցաւ Երկուշաբթի, 2 Դեկտեմբեր 2013ին, Հայկազեան Համալսարանին մէջ, սեղմ շրջանակի մը մէջ:

Իր խօսքին մէջ, Հայկազեան Համալսարանի նախագահ, Վեր. Դոկտ. Փօլ Հայտօսթեան բարձր գնահատեց այս նուիրաբերումը, մատնանշելով որ Համալսարանի մեծագոյն իրագործումը «հայ ուսանողին կրթանպաստ հայթայթելով համալսարանական կրթութեան առիթ յառաջացնելն է,- եւ ընդգծեց որ,- մեր մեծագոյն պէտքերը այդ կալուածին մէջ են»: Ապա ան անդրադարձաւ բարերար ամոլին, շեշտելով անոր երկարամեայ ծառայութիւնները լիբանահայութեան, ու աւելցուց որ Պրն. Յարութիւնեան բազմիցս օգտակար դարձած է լիբանահայ կրթական ասպարէզին: Վեր. Հայտօսթեան գոհունակութիւն յայտնեց, որ ներկայ նուիրատուութիւնը կու գայ կրթանպաստի մեծ կարիքներուն իր կարեւոր օգտակարութիւնը ունենալու:

Ապա համառօտակի ներկայացուեցան Պրն. Յարութիւնեանի կենսագրականը եւ հրատարակչական գործունէութիւնը:

Խօսք առնելով, բարերար Արմէն Յարութիւնեան «բարի» գտաւ նպատակը արարողութեան եւ մաղթեց որ նման արարողութիւններ շատնան: Ան նշեց որ Հայկազեան Համալսարանը հայ երիտասարդութիւն կը մէկտեղէ եւ հայեցի մթնոլորտի մէջ զանազան մասնագիտութիւններ կը ջամբէ, որով կը բարձրանայ մեր ազգին ուսումնական արժէչափը եւ կոչ ըրաւ՝ «պէտք է գուրգուրալ Հայկազեան Համալսարանին նիւթապէս եւ բարոյապէս»: Պրն. Յարութիւնեան շեշտեց որ Հայկազեան Համալսարանը «բոլորին կը պատկանի» եւ առ այդ մաղթեց որ այս արարքը վարակիչ դառնայ, ու իր խօսքը աւարտեց մէջբերելով Վահան Թէքէեանի ուսանելի բանաստեղծութենէն՝ «Հաշույեարդար, ի՞նչ մնաց, կեանքէն ինծի ի՞նչ մնաց Ինչ որ տուի ուրիշին, տարօրինակ այն միայն»:

Արարողութեան աւարտին տեղի ունեցաւ պատշաճ հիւրասիրութիւն, որուն ընթացքին մտերիմ խօսակցութիւն ծաւալեցաւ:

Իւրօրինակ գնահատում մըն էր այս նուիրատուութիւնը ուղղուած Հայկազեան Համալսարանին, անոր հին ու նոր դասախօսական անձնակազմին եւ պաշտօնէութեան ծաւալած գործունէութեան ու կրթանուէր առաքելութեան:
