Humanist of Polish Renaissance

Szymon Szymonowicz (1558-1629) was a Polish writer of Armenian descent. He was born in Lviv and educated in Poland, France, and Belgium. He is known as a humanist of the Polish Renaissance.

He wrote poems and plays in Polish and Latin and was considered one of the greatest poets of the Polish Renaissance. He was imitated by many French and Italian humanists. He depicted a simple Polish landscape and peasantry in his short pieces.
