Although dismissed by archeologists, historians, and by anyone whose IQ is above room temperature, the “Chosen People” and the “Promised Land” myths persist in certain quarters, particularly among Israelis and Christian Zionists. The promoters of these myths have weaponized them and use them as cudgels to browbeat Palestinians whose lands they have grabbed. In other words, these myths are the bedrock of the rationale which helped create Israel in 1948 and are advanced at the drop of a hat by pro-Zionists.
Here is an abridged list of facts and questions which blow apart the veracity of the persistent and deadly twin myths.
- God loves all humanity equally. Of the thousands of nations, races, and tribes why would God make one group the teacher’s pet, especially when the “Chosen People” often gave Him heart ache?
- Abraham, originally Abram, was a nondescript Chaldean from Ur, in southern Iraq. Why did God pick Abram to become the Father of the yet-to-be invented Jews? We don’t know what qualities, if any, mythical Abram had. Besides, Abram came from a pagan family.
- The tale that Abram and his family left for Canaan/Palestine, aka the Land of Milk and Honey is inaccurate. The Bible says it was Terah, Abram’s older brother, who led the family out of Ur. But they didn’t go to the Land of Milk and Honey. Terah led the group to Haran, in northern Syria. When Terah died at the age of 205 (perhaps there were ten days in the month in those days), God promoted to Abram Canaan “the Land of Milk and Honey.”
- Although, per God’s direction, Abram headed south to Canaan/Palestine, he somehow bypassed the “Promised Land” and wound up in Egypt. In the Land of the Pharaohs, Abram and his wife Sarah pretended they were brother and sister (long story.) The Pharaoh discovered the deception and kicked Mr. and Mrs. Abram (no last name) from Egypt.
Abram had 314 male servants (we are not told the total number). We have no idea why so many servants. Together with unnamed allies and his servants, he attacked the nasty King Chedoriomer, conquered the Land of Milk and Honey and declared Mission Accomplished. He was a strapping young man of 85 at the time.

- Why did God decide to kick Canaanites from their native land and give it to an unremarkable family of Chaldeans from Iraq? Why would God be so unjust? Weren’t Canaanites His children too?
- Anybody who checks the Atlas will conclude the Land of Canaan/Palestine was no Land of Milk and Honey. It’s mostly desert with a skinny river named Jordan. So, why call the desert the “Land of Milk and Honey”? Why would God mislead the rubes from Chaldea? What was the crime of the Canaanites?
- Around the time Abram tale was taking place, there were more than a dozen nations in the region. Why did God pick a Chaldean nonentity rather than an Egyptian, Babylonian, Assyrian, Armenian (Land of Aram), Persian (Mede), Sumerian, Elamite, and someone from the Land of the Hurrians? Why would God bestow upon a pagan family the Land of Canaan?
- Abram and Sarah had long past beyond the Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond ages when Sarah became pregnant. Why didn’t God facilitate the birth of an heir decades earlier? Imagine poor Isaac trying to communicate with parents who were nonagenarians. In a decision which could cause lifelong psychiatric problems, Isaac witnessed his ageing father sharpen his knife to slay him. Only an insecure entity would test a person’s faith in this manner. What was the father-and-son relation after God became convinced Abram was reliable. Likewise the fate of Job. What kind of compassionate God would turn a believer’s life into hell so as to test his loyalty?
- It seems there are at least two types of Chosen People. That’s the obvious conclusion when one considers the 1930s immigration policies of Zionist leaders in Mandate Palestine. Zionist immigration people had a selective immigration policy designed to exclude “undesirable Jews.” They wanted Jewish capitalists, skilled laborers, professionals, and people of fighting age. Families with children, disabled, destitute, and elderly Jews were rejected. Even Jews who were fleeing the Nazis were not allowed if they didn’t have “desirable” demographics.
- To be truly “Chosen,” Jews had to be recast with superior racial composition…of mental and physical faculties. The idea was to create a new, redacted, corrected and perfected type of Chosen People. In other words, the idea was to “improve” God’s version. For the above “reason,” Jews from Arab countries were considered culturally, spiritually, and intellectually inferior to European Jews.
Every nation/race has legends, myths, and imaginary stories which are eventually recognized as ahistorical. However, Zionists not only insist their myths are historical facts but weaponize those myths to spread horror and genocide. In the past three years, the above two myths caused the genocide of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians.

My sincere sympathies and condolences in light of the time you have invested to dig up and present your irrelevant “information.”
Here is how you debate:
1. Arabs conquered Palestine in the 7th century. They took it from Byzantium. Prior to Byzantium, Persians had occupied the land for a brief period. The number of Jews in Palestine was negligible when the Arabs conquered the land. Arabs played no part in the departure (mostly voluntarily) of Jews from Palestine.
2. Although after the 11th century various nations (European Crusaders, Memlukes, Ottoman Turks) occupied Palestine, the majority of the people were always Palestinian Arabs.
3. Britain is granted (1917) mandate by the League of Nations to administer Palestine until such time the local population was capable of running their country. Britain promised to make Palestine homeland for the Jews, despite the opposition of the Palestinians who made up 96 percent of the population and most of the land was owned by Palestinians.
4. As Britain opened the doors to the illegal immigration of Jews, Palestinians fought against Jewish immigration because it was no secret Jews planned to grab Palestine.
5. The UN–dominated by pro-Zionist U.S–voted (1947) to split the land and give 56 percent of the land to the Jewish minority made up of mostly illegally settled Jews. Arabs, of course, rejected the idea of giving their homeland to FOREIGNERS from Poland, Ukraine, Austria, Germany, Hungary…
6. With money and Western support–Israel won the war and expanded its occupation to 78 percent of Palestine.
7. In 1967 Israel grabbed the remaining part of Palestine although Palestinians did not take part in the war.
Please spare us the Sunday school Christian Zionism, a last remnant of Western colonialism.
Mr Bedrosian,
Forget the history of occupiers of Palestine interesting as it reads.
What an offensive statement from an Armenian last name. Armenians have never been anti semite. A word coined and used to threaten any one contradicting Zionist unjustified goals. Please take time to visit the Armenian community in the so called Holy land to witness the harassment by Jews of Christians Armenians and Moslems.
Furthermore, they coined the words “chosen people” themselves to feel superior, and marketed. We know God does not discriminate.
Serop, right on!
